My uncle was into cars early in my life. This is his
second Malibu, the first was a red Malibu but was totaled in an
accident. He purchased this car (which was an ugly metallic green and
had a V-6) and took the engine from the red Malibu and put it in. This
car was his primary transportation and shown in several car shows taking
numerous 1st place trophies. Eventually, health problems prevented him
from driving the car anymore and it was put in storage for several
years. The car was then passed over to me, my brother and I are trying
to return the car to it's past condition. |

Here's the original engine after being pulled. The engine was
originally from a 1971 Monte Carlo, it then was put into the red Malibu,
and then it was freshened up with new rings and put into the current
Malibu. It's still standard and was running when pulled out of the car.
Since my 327 is being put into the Malibu, we will be taking this 350
and nicely rebuilding it to put into my truck. |

After the engine was removed, we steam cleaned the
engine bay and then repainted it. All the wiring was run through the
fenders to help clean up the fenders and firewall. |
|
Here's the 327 after a new paintjob and all the chrome polished up.
Since the engine was originally red, I wasn't sure I'd like it black.
Red would have looked odd in a Turquoise car though, but in the end I
like the black! The carburetor looked bad, so in the end we ended up
painting it and it looked great! I think Holley actually charges you
more to get a black carburetor. |

After putting new front and rear seals in the
transmission, a new screen and gasket, it was bolted up to the engine
and both were put back into the car. |

In the next few weeks we will be installing headers, reinstalling all
the accessories, putting the Mallory ignition system in and eventually
starting the engine for the first time. |
